Crown: the special attention time will be extended with legal right

The special care time for the care of children or caregivers as a supplement to the care leave is being extended and there is now a legal right to it. The federal government has agreed this with the social partners, and the corresponding initiative request will be presented today, Thursday, at the extraordinary session of the National Council.

According to the current status, the special care time should only be available for three weeks as an accompanying measure to the closure until February and without legal right. That means the employer had to consent. The state had covered up to a third of the costs for the employer in the spring, now it should be 50 percent in the fall.

With the new regulation that has now been agreed upon, there is a legal right to a special childcare time retroactively from November 1: the consent of the employer is no longer required. Instead of three, the special care period can now be taken for four weeks and also applies to quarantined children. The federal government will take care of the full reimbursement with immediate effect, that is, the employer will be reimbursed 100 percent of the compensation costs. This new regulation applies until the end of the 2020/21 school year.
