The Ministry of Health and the Ministry of the Interior reported 4,669 new cases of coronavirus registered from Friday to Saturday (as of Saturday, 9:30 a.m.). Despite initial declines, new infections remain dramatically high. “So you need a particularly strong and committed last week of lockdown.” said Health Minister Rudolf Anschober (Greens). Authorities recorded a record 132 crown-related deaths.
AUSTRIA. Anschober announced that the lockdown would cause the decline in new infections to continue slowly but surely.
So far 275,661 people have tested positive in Austria. The number of those who died from Covid-19 rose to 3,018, according to the two ministries. Another 132 people have died from it in the past 24 hours alone.
7-day incidence
According to AGES, the number of positively diagnosed cases in the last seven days per 100,000 inhabitants is 383 (as of Friday at 2 pm). “Before the last week of the shutdown, the number of new infections fell again for the first time,” Anschober said Saturday. This also applies to hospitalizations and the critically ill in intensive care units. Now a particularly strong and dedicated last week is needed. So far, more than 4,279 Covid 19 patients have had to be treated in hospital, including 688 in intensive care units.
The number of tests is increasing
The number of tests is increasing enormously at all levels. Screening tests are also growing enormously: Last week there were more than 33,000 tests in seniors and nursing homes alone. Austria is therefore also one of the leaders in Europe. In Austria a total of 3,061,067 tests have been carried out.
Appeal to the population
“Let’s all demonstrate once again that we can make a strong contribution, reduce direct contacts and consistently comply with the minimum distance, hygiene standards and all specified measures,” the Health Minister once again appealed to the population. Next week should bring a record reduction in new infections. In principle, the measures only lead to a decrease in new infections after just under two weeks and a reduction in admissions of sick people to hospitals after another week, Anschober said. Then the deaths also decrease. “This is urgently needed, because even today the death toll is extremely high, plus 132.”
The AGES dashboard shows new cases after the date of the laboratory diagnosis, which may have occurred days before the report. This makes the epidemic course curve more exact, but changes the number of new reported infections that has been used as the characteristic value, which is still reported by the Ministry of the Interior and Health.
