German health authorities reported 2,089 new corona infections in one day. According to the Robert Koch Institute (RKI), at least 287,421 people in Germany have been shown to have been infected with the Sars-CoV-2 virus since the beginning of the Corona crisis (data as of September 29, 00:00).
According to the RKI, the number of deaths related to a corona infection is 9460. That is eleven more than the day before. According to RKI estimates, around 254,200 people survived the infection. The number of active cases is just under 24,000.
On Saturday, the highest value since April was reached with 2507 new corona infections. Corona cases occur particularly in connection with celebrations in family and friends, according to RKI’s current status report. The proportion of travelers returning among cases is declining. Outbreaks would be reported again in nursing homes and nursing homes.
The peak of new infections reported daily was in late March / early April at over 6000. Then the number tended to decline and rose again in July. In August, the threshold of 2,000 new registered cases was exceeded. The number of new infections found also depends on how many people get tested.
The R value
According to RKI estimates in Germany, the number of views, or R-value for short, was 1.18 (previous day: 1.17) according to Monday’s management report. This means that one infected person infects slightly more than one other person on average. The R value represents the infection rate approximately one and a half weeks earlier. “The 4-day R-value has been mostly above 1 since the second week of September,” the RKI said.
Additionally, the RKI gives a seven-day R call in its current status report. The value refers to a longer period of time and is therefore less subject to daily fluctuations. According to RKI estimates, this value was 0.98 on Monday (previous day: 1.02). It shows the infection process for eight to 16 days.
Hotspots: new increase in infection in Hamm
The established limit of 50 infections per 100,000 inhabitants in seven days is exceeded in several places in Germany.
According to the current state of the RKI, the current corona hotspots are in North Rhine-Westphalia, Bavaria and the Mitte district of Berlin:
- City without district of Hamm (North Rhine-Westphalia): The 7-day incidence value is now 112.2 (as of Sept. 28, 12am).
- Remscheid (North Rhine-Westphalia): Here the weekly incidence value is 72.1.
- Dingolfing-Landau district (Bavaria): Here the number of infections also exceeds the limit value: 60.3.
- Berlin Mitte district: The weekly incidence value is now just above the limit value in Berlin-Mitte; here it is 54.9.
Precautionary measures such as school closures were ordered in other counties and cities.

How common is Corona around the world?
The private Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore (USA) determines the world number of corona cases. If you compare the German numbers from Johns Hopkins University to those of the RKI, then the RKI appears to be lagging behind in registering new corona cases. Reason: Both institutions determine the number of cases in different ways.
This is how the RKI works
As the independent federal authority for infectious diseases, the Robert Koch Institute is currently shaping all of our lives with its figures, research, and the knowledge gained from them.
People with 90 different professions from 50 countries work there. Of the 1,296 employees, 1,224 are in Berlin and 72 in the Wernigerode branch. The Berlin 24/7 Situation Center alone has 150 employees.
