Crown: churches must implement voluntary restrictions

Culture Minister Susanne Raab (VP) announced it through a broadcast. However, measures were agreed that churches should implement voluntarily. This includes mandatory masks during public worship and reduced chanting.

“As before, public services are exempt from the generally applicable event rules,” Raab said in a broadcast. However, this does not apply to church events outside of church services; these very well fall under the ordinances of the Ministry of Health. For religious services, on the other hand, churches must implement certain measures on a voluntary basis.

Consequently, a mask is required during public services. In addition, disinfectants should be provided and edging should be reduced. Also, there is a minimum distance of at least one meter between believers (as in Catholic church services). However, not “if this requires the performance of religious acts” (eg during communion). In open-air religious services, all participants must be seated.

For weddings, funerals and similar “religious celebrations for special occasions”, there must be a prevention concept that is supervised by a prevention officer. In addition, there should be assigned and marked seats so that contact persons can be identified in case of infection.
