The Ministry of Health is investigating any deficiencies in the CPA masks (meets the criteria for FFP2 masks, note). After a nursing home in Carinthia complained about a mask, a new test found that the passage was larger than allowed.
As the Ministry of Health emphasized, all federal states were informed immediately after the test result. The letter also recommended that the affected masks be used only as protection for the mouth and nose. How many masks are affected has yet to be investigated.
Ministry has revised the masks
The case is unusual, as batches with masks with the same production batch number are generally assigned to a company. In the case of the nursing home, these were products with batch number SC20200040, which also met the requirements for an FFP2 mask in new tests. “The operator of a care company noted, however, that masks other than the verified production batch number were delivered within the same batch. This issue is currently being reviewed,” the ministry said.
Furthermore, steps have already been taken “to ensure the best possible supply of high-quality masks for institutions in the social and welfare sector.” Deliveries should follow within a week.
Vienna also has the bug-checked batch of masks
Vienna, along with other federal states, also has a certain batch of protective masks corresponding to type FFP2 verified by the Federal Office of Metrology and Topography for defective copies. This was announced by a spokesman for Health Councilor Peter Hacker (SPÖ) on Wednesday at the request of the APA.

Retesting of protective products with a certain production batch number had shown that “unacceptable deviations cannot be ruled out with certainty,” said a spokesman for the regional councilor. It is currently being checked how many of the masks delivered by the federal government in August are in circulation in Lower Austria so that a replacement can be arranged.
