Vienna is expanding the range of free corona tests: on Monday, another, now third test lane, was presented at the Austria Center Vienna (ACV) in the 22nd district. It opens on Tuesday. In principle, anyone can be examined there, but the room is mainly intended for people who want to visit their relatives in nursing homes or hospitals. At the same time, the configuration of massive tests initiated by the federal government is underway.
People who want to be tested at the ACV must register in advance. The exam is possible every day from 7:00 am to 7:00 pm The station was installed on the covered esplanade in front of the congress center. The offering is also targeted at employees in the healthcare professions, critical infrastructure, or blue-light organizations.
Up to 15,000 tests per day
The test route at the Austria Center Vienna complements the two existing test routes in the Prater near the Ernst Happel stadium and on the Danube island. The capacity can be expanded up to 15,000 tests per day. For people with symptoms, or for people with mobility restrictions, there is the possibility of arriving in your own car and doing the test in the parking lot.
It starts on Tuesdays with three walk-in test lanes and four test lanes. You must bring mouth and nose protection, a photo ID, your social security number, and the QR code you received when registering. An antigen test is used, which requires a nasal or throat swab. With the swab that is placed in a test solution, visitors move to another station. There you yourself can put a few drops in a test cassette under guidance. After a short wait, the result will appear there.
If the result is positive, the person conducting the test is immediately taken to a separate area. A PCR test is then performed there. Contact tracing will also begin on the spot, he assured.

“We have always done very intensive testing in Vienna. Vienna not only tests a lot, but also specific professional groups to protect critical infrastructure such as hospitals and especially people who are particularly affected,” said Vienna Mayor Michael Ludwig ( SPÖ), at the presentation on Monday. City Councilor for Health Peter Hacker (SPÖ) emphasized that the goal of the test roads was to provide the widest, low-threshold options possible.

At least temporarily, the test offer in the federal capital will be expanded much more. Because mass testing is pending too: From December 4-13, three locations will become testing centers. These are Messe Wien, Marx-Halle and Stadthalle. Construction work at the respective locations is ongoing.
Registration for exams will be possible from December 2. A total of 286 test lines will be installed for rapid tests and 20 for PCR tests. The largest facility of this type will be located in two showrooms, where nearly 200 stations will be available. 450 notebooks, 180 printers, 290 wastebaskets and 55 mobile toilets are also required.
In terms of personnel, the campaign is also a challenge: thousands of soldiers will be deployed to the mass test in Vienna, as the armed forces announced on Sunday.
