The city of Wels is currently firmly under the control of the corona virus. As a result of several from both the state of Upper Austria and the Ministry of Health, there will now be a registration requirement in the catering sector.

CATFISH. Even before these new measures, the reopening of the Wels City Theater was canceled. “We have decided to postpone the opening ceremony to spring,” said Mayor Andreas Rabl (FPÖ). “That’s a shame, but it also coincided with the direction of maestro Franz Welser-Möst, who was supposed to give the opening speech,” Rabl said.

Currently 180 people in Wels are infected with Covid-19. 157 in quarantine and four people in the intensive care unit of the Wels-Grieskirchen Clinic. Two of them are based on Wels. Two people died as a result of a corona infection, but had significant previous illnesses, reported health official Silvia Huber (SPÖ). Contract tracking

Currently, the magistrate employs about 40 people to monitor in case of infection. “Contract monitoring has been a long time in the private sector. Right now we have the situation under control. However, if development continues to be negative, we could reach our capacity limits at the magistrate,” reports Magistrate Director Peter Franzmayr .

Public area

No special measures are foreseen for schools and kindergartens. “This traffic light remains ‘yellow’ because we can barely detect infections in this area,” said City Manager Rabl. “70 percent of all cases occur in the private sphere, which is where leverage should be applied. In restaurants, you have that well under control,” Rabl continues.
