Vorarlberg Governor Markus Wallner warned Saturday of a large number of unreported cases in the state.

The high rate of positive test results suggests that “there could be a lot of unreported cases in the background,” Wallner said in an interview with ORF Vorarlberg. “That worries,” said the governor. In Vorarlberg, 30 percent of corona tests were positive recently, the highest value in all of Austria.

“Demanding task for hospitals”

“I assume, if things continue like this, it will be a very demanding task for hospitals in the next two weeks,” Wallner said. He doesn’t want to spread fear, because Vorarlberg is very well positioned in terms of intensive capabilities. You can increase up to 100 intensive care places, even a little more. According to the country’s board, as of Saturday noon, 27 Covid patients were in intensive care units and 113 in normal wards.

“But if it went beyond what I really do not want to accept now, then we would also need help from elsewhere. Then it would only be possible with external help,” the governor emphasized. And that’s not easy, because corona events have grown across Europe and now everyone needs his hospital capabilities.

“This is a situation that must be avoided at all costs. I hope that the population sees it now and reacts,” Wallner appealed to the Vorarlbergs.

Complete intensive care units

After the Dornbirn City Hospital announced last weekend that there were no more intensive care beds available, all intensive care beds at Hohenems State Hospital were now occupied with Covid patients. Now new patients are being brought to Feldkirch.

Wallner does not want to react to this with further measures, first it is necessary to wait and see what effect the block will show.
