A PCR smear, a rapid antibody test, and a blood sample for the antibody test are performed in the laboratory. The order of the tests was given by the Ministry of Science in cooperation with the Austrian Red Cross (ÖRK) and MedUni Vienna, which examines the sample material.

In order to ensure safe sample collection, 53 test stations were made available to the study throughout Austria. Furthermore, the influx of test persons is regulated by assigning time windows. Participants will be personally informed about the results of their tests. The relevant overall results will be presented to the public in December.

According to the first study of dark figures, between 10,200 and 67,400 people in Austria were infected with the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus in early April. The most likely value was 28,500 infected people, corresponding to 0.33 percent of the population. In May, the highest value was 10,823 infected people, representing only about 0.15 percent of the total population aged 16 and over.
