“If I hear that everything else has to give up the protection of life, then I have to say: This is not correct at all,” Schäuble said of the “Tagesspiegel”.
Fundamental rights were mutually limited, the Christian Democrat said. “If there is an absolute value in our basic law, it is human dignity. It is untouchable. But it doesn’t rule out that we have to die. “
The state must “guarantee the best possible medical care for all,” says Schäuble. “But people will also continue to die for Corona.”
Schäuble asks for more consideration in the discussion on easing the measures. Politicians cannot say: “We close everything and leave it at that. We have to clarify this weighing process. “
The former finance minister (2009–2017) warns against trying to solve the economic crisis with only tax money. One feels “for the moment a widespread feeling that we can solve all problems with unlimited state funds, and then we get the economy going again with an economic stimulus program.” The state, however, “cannot permanently replace sales.”
Former constitutional judge Udo Di Fabio (66) also calls on the federal government to remove the restrictions as much as possible.
“Whenever the infection situation allows it, serious violations of fundamental rights should be avoided or mitigated,” Di Fabio told BILD. “The government and the authorities must do everything possible to obtain better knowledge and adapt their measures to the new knowledge. This has to be done with one goal: to give citizens back their freedom, in responsible security. “
