Paris threatens to close bars and restaurants due to Corona’s tense situation. In the French capital and the suburbs, the situation has deteriorated rapidly recently, French Health Minister Olivier Veran said on Thursday. If this dynamic is confirmed, the “maximum alert level” will be declared there on Monday. “We will review the indicators on Sunday with the mayor of Paris and all the elected representatives.”

Until now, the “maximum alert” applies in the French overseas territory of Guadeloupe and in Marseille. In the southern French port city, restaurants and bars had to close; there were massive protests. In Paris, bars close at 10 pm, restaurants can stay open longer. However, they are only allowed to serve alcohol in connection with a meal.

There is “very worrying” development in several large cities, Veran said. These included Lille, Lyon, and Grenoble. Here too the “maximum alert level” could soon be declared. France has been hit hard by the pandemic, more than 30,000 people have died so far.
