One of the few cultural institutions in Austria affected by the new audience restriction related to the 1,000-person crown from Saturday is the Vienna State Opera. Since the reopening of the Haus am Ring on September 7 with the “Madama Butterfly”, around 40,000 spectators have been received in 38 nights, according to the APA. Two-thirds of them are above the now drawn limit of 1,000 people. Up to 1,114 guests were counted in one night.
In this sense, the new restriction will certainly affect you. You lose between 5,000 and 10,000 euros per night. “That hurts, of course,” emphasizes the State Opera. As things stand now, those who have already purchased tickets for future performances can also redeem them. Then you have to create the balance through a possibly smaller contingent at the box office. Only the “Tosca” series, scheduled for December 11, with audience favorite Anna Netrebko in the title role, already surpasses the 1,000 pre-order mark. Unfortunately, tickets must be assigned once the reservation is received.
It must be accepted that the protection of the mouth and nose will also be mandatory during a performance in the future. At the moment, the guests in the house are already extremely disciplined when wearing masks in public areas, even if there is no doubt that a large majority currently remove the mask during the performance.
