On Thursday, 949 people in Austria were infected with the corona virus. For the first time since mid-March, there were fewer than 1,000 victims.
As of Thursday morning (8:00 a.m.), 949 people in Austria were currently infected with the corona virus. For the first time since March 16, the number fell below 1,000 in the country currently suffering from SARS-CoV-2. So far, there have been a total of 15,980 positive results across the country.
Low hospitalizations in Vorarlberg, Carinthia and Burgenland
234 people were hospitalized for the coronavirus, of which 54 were in intensive care units. In Vorarlberg, as on the previous day, not a single patient had to be treated in hospital, and the number of hospitalized patients remained low in Carinthia (two) and Burgenland (three).
51 new cases were reported from Vienna from Wednesday to Thursday. A spokesperson for the city’s crisis management team explained this increase, which was higher than in recent days, saying it mainly affects people from the family ties of people who are already infected. Except in the federal capital, there was an increase in active patients only in Upper Austria, where there was exactly one new case.
New infections are only slightly different than before the initial restrictions
The number of new infections has changed only slightly since the initial restrictions were largely lifted on May 1. Only a few new cases are reported daily from the old “Crown Bastion” Tyrol. Only in the metropolis of Vienna and Lower Austria do the daily increases, as well as the number of people recovering, sometimes in double digits.
So far, 626 people in Austria have died of a disease with or with Covid-19. The number of victims increased by two from Wednesday to Thursday after two deaths were reported from Lower Austria.
