After a close Chancellor employee tested positive for the corona virus yesterday, as well as ÖVP environmental spokesperson Johannes Schmuckenschlager and Neos budget spokesperson Karin Doppelbauer, the virus is attracting more national political circles.
Most of the top government officials and employees in the informant’s environment were screened Monday. Only Economy Minister Margarete Schramböck (ÖVP) and Environment Minister Leonore Gewessler (Greens) were unable to attend, they did not have to undergo a test. The only positive test known to date is from an employee of Magnus Brunner (ÖVP), Secretary of State in the infrastructure department run by Gewessler. A first Brunner test was negative.
Isolated Schützenhöfer
On Tuesday, Gewessler also went into self-isolation. As announced by his office, he had contact with a person potentially infected with corona and was therefore a potential person K (ontakt) 1. In coordination with health authorities, Gewessler is currently in voluntary self-isolation and is being tested. The minister works from the central office, but does not attend any appointments at the moment.
Earlier it was learned that the Governor of Styria, Hermann Schützenhöfer (ÖVP), had to enter the officially provided quarantine because he had contact with an infected employee. This was announced by the communication state of Styria on Tuesday. Other contact persons were also isolated as a precautionary measure. All affected are symptom free. Test results are expected on Tuesday afternoon.
