Coronavirus: entry requirements for Austrians in Europe

Since last week, different rules apply to Viennese in some countries than to people arriving from the rest of Austria. Regulations for Austrians upon entry:

Albania: Free entry for Austrians. Quarantine is not mandatory from July 1. However, as in most Balkan countries, a travel warning from the Austrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs applies. This means that a negative Covid-19 test must be presented upon return or entered into a home quarantine.

Belgium: For people who have been in Vienna in the last 14 days, a PCR test must be performed in Belgium (foreign tests are generally not recognized) and, even if the test result is negative, they must remain in quarantine for 14 days. Online registration is mandatory before entering Belgium. This does not apply to people who have been in Vienna for less than 48 hours or who will be in Belgium for less than 48 hours.

Bosnia Herzegovina: Austrians have had to submit a negative corona test no older than 48 hours since July 16. There is a travel warning, therefore also try or return when returning. Quarantine obligation.

Bulgaria: People with a body temperature above 37 degrees Celsius are isolated and quarantined or receive medical treatment. Otherwise, there are no entry restrictions. However, conversely, there is a travel warning.

Denmark: Austria has been on the Danish travel advisory list since Thursday. As of Saturday, entry from Austria into Denmark is only possible for a reason worth considering. This includes an existing employment relationship, a course of study, or business trips. Entry is not possible for holiday reasons.

Germany: Vienna participants must present a negative Covid-19 test upon entry, which must be no more than 48 hours old. Otherwise, a 14-day quarantine requirement applies. The quarantine requirement is handled differently between the German federal states. Travelers who have not been to Vienna in the last 14 days can enter from Vienna-Schwechat Airport without restrictions.

Estonia: Austrians must show a health certificate when entering or entering quarantine.

Finland: Austrians can only enter Finland in exceptional cases. Only: students in Finland, relatives of Finnish citizens with the right to stay in Finland, business travelers, diplomats, people passing through. Ireland: After entering the country, you must go into quarantine for 14 days.

Italy: Free admission. Registrations only for the regions of Apulia, Calabria, Sardinia, Sicily.

Croatia: Free admission. However, a travel warning from the Austrian Foreign Ministry applies to Croatia.

Latvia: Since July 25, Austrians have had to re-quarantine themselves for 14 days upon entering the country.

Lithuania: Austrians must be quarantined for 14 days, in addition a negative Covid-19 test must be presented upon entry. It should not be more than 72 hours old. A negative test does not eliminate the quarantine requirement.

malt: There are no conditions per se for entry. Arrivals from Austria must only have been in Austria or another country classified as safe 14 days prior.

Moldavian: There is an obligation to quarantine travelers from Austria. Austria, for its part, has issued a travel advisory.

Montenegro: Free entry, but a travel warning applies.

North macedonia: Free entry, but there is a travel warning in effect.

Norway: Austrians have had to go into a ten-day quarantine since August 21 after entering the country.

Portugal: Only in the islands of Madeira and Azores a negative corona test must be presented that does not have more than three days at the entrance or a test must be carried out on arrival at the place. There are no entry restrictions for Austrians on the mainland. A travel warning from Austria continues to apply.

Romania: There are currently no entry restrictions for Austrians. However, Austria has issued a travel advisory for Romania.

Serbia: There are hardly any shortcomings. However, if you are traveling through Bulgaria, Croatia, North Macedonia, or Romania, you must provide a negative Covid-19 test that is no more than two days old. At the same time, an Austrian travel warning applies.

Slovakia: Free admission. During the Crown crisis, Slovakia does not proceed according to citizenship with its entry rules, but according to the place or places of residence in the 14 days prior to entry. Therefore, it is generally not official that all Austrian citizens can enter the country without any problems.

Slovenia: Entry from Austria is free for people who have their primary or secondary residence in Austria.

Spain: Before entering through an airport or seaport, you must register. This is not the case overland. However, Austria has issued a travel advisory for the mainland and the Balearic Islands.

Turkey: Austria has issued a travel advisory.

Ukraine: At the end of August, the government issued an entry ban for foreigners that was valid until September 28. There are exceptions for close relatives of Ukrainian citizens, students, people with a residence permit, cultural workers at the invitation of a cultural institution, and people who travel to Germany for medical treatment. Austria, for its part, has issued a travel advisory.

Hungary: Again there is an entry ban for foreigners. There are exceptions for business travelers and travelers. Tourist trips are not allowed.

Belarus (Belarus): Entry for Austrians is basically free. However, numerous flights have been suspended and entry by land restricted. In addition to the corona pandemic, Belarus is currently experiencing a political crisis. An Austrian travel advisory applies due to the crown situation.

Cyprus: From August 28, travelers from Austria must present a negative PCR test upon entering Cyprus. The PCR test should not take more than 72 hours to check out.
