The Corona traffic light apparently only has the task of increasing the attention of the population in the regions that are currently most affected.
As announced on Monday, Corona’s traffic light turned orange for the first time at lunchtime on Tuesday. However, now this is more or less symbolic, because the tightening does not go hand in hand with the seven affected districts, such as Vienna and Innsbruck-Stadt.
There are now seven districts in orange: Vienna, Innsbruck-Stadt, Kufstein, Dornbirn, Bludenz, Mödling and Neunkirchen. In addition, 35 districts were colored yellow, which means a medium risk.
In the opinion of the commission, the new measures “are not necessary”, because “the measures of the flexibilization regulation must be implemented anyway and the concepts of mandatory prevention must be applied,” it says in the explanations of the traffic light commission.
Rather, these are recommendations made by the responsible commission, such as intensifying the protection of care centers and hospitals, increasing the number of screening examinations in relevant areas such as care, health and education, as well as establishing preventive measures , for example, in the markets, and restrict Events in closed companies without the concept of security.

Three federal states still green

In Tirol, Innsbruck-Stadt and Kufstein they have been raised one level to orange, while the districts of Landeck and Innsbruck-Land are added to Schwaz in yellow. The Vorarlberg, which was previously completely green, is now divided into an orange area (Dornbirn, Bludenz) and a yellow area (Bregenz, Feldkirch). In Lower Austria, Mödling and Neunkirchen went from green to orange, many other districts are now yellow. Styria is not orange, but some districts such as the city of Graz and its surroundings are yellow.
At least for the moment, state politicians were quite satisfied with the Commission’s decisions. Vienna Councilor for Health Peter Hacker (SPÖ) also “agreed” with the improvement of the federal capital. Vorarlberg Governor Markus Wallner (ÖVP) even wants the districts to be improved as he says he refuses to suggest to the population with a harmless traffic light that all is well.
However, the number of people infected with corona rose significantly to 800 after the usual weekend recession. 764 new cases were registered on Tuesday. The Home Office reported 382 new infections on Monday morning, which was significantly less than 869 on Saturday, but again significantly more than exactly a week earlier, when 290 new infections were reported on Monday.
