After the hotels closed, the old epidemic law remained in effect for eleven days: Hoteliers want compensation.
Because hotels and pensions had to close their businesses due to the crown crisis and the winter season that ended prematurely, many Vorarlberg accommodation companies now want compensation from the republic. This was reported by ORF Vorarlberg on Sunday.
According to the Vorarlberg Chamber of Commerce, therefore, there are eleven days that hotels were already closed, but the old epidemic law was still in effect before it was repealed by the Crown Measure Law. Under the epidemic law, hoteliers could be compensated.
Conversations with the federal government
As sector spokesperson Harald Furtner informed ORF, many of the approximately 1,000 housing providers in Vorarlberg had already submitted a request for compensation to district authorities. According to Furtner, there are already talks with the federal government to reach a settlement without trial.
At the beginning of May, it was already known that thousands of Tyrolean and Salzburg hoteliers were also demanding compensation. In Tirol, the number of claims for compensation is estimated at 3,500, in Salzburg it could be more than 2,000 according to estimates by the Austrian Hotel Association (ÖHV).
