The traffic light system presented today, which serves to provide an overview of Corona’s situation in Austria, has consequences for Vienna: here the traffic light is already yellow.

VIENNA. To accompany the situation of the crown in autumn, the federal government today presented a crown traffic light. The four-stage system shows how high the risk of SARS CoV-2 infection is in a region and what measures are derived from it.

Austria’s largest cities, Vienna, Linz and Graz, as well as the Kufstein district, already start with yellow, the rest of Austria is green.

The traffic light system describes exactly what measures regional authorities should implement for which color. Innovations to existing security measures for yellow are, for example, the mask requirement for waitresses and waitresses and mask requirements for customers in commercial premises. Everything about the traffic light, the meaning of the individual colors and the indicators that are evaluated to determine the risk can be found at www.corona-ampel.gv.at.

This is how the Crown map of Austria is currently laid out.

There is a waiting time for measures such as the mask requirement in restaurants and other establishments with customer contact, which should not be implemented until September 11. In schools, however, the provisions that apply to yellow should apply equally, including mandatory masking in the hallway for elementary school students.

Surprised by the regulations to start school

“We were a bit surprised that this has to be implemented so quickly,” says the Corona crisis team of the city of Vienna, “but federal minister Faßmann creates the basis here with an ordinance so that the measures are valid from the beginning of the school. “Currently, the city is legally reviewing the requirements.

Mayor Michael Ludwig (SPÖ) was not very surprised by the “yellow Vienna” in a broadcast: he took note of the traffic light configuration, but at the same time demanded more transparency in the classification. A legal basis is required for the consequences of the traffic light change. However, this should only happen with the amendment of the Law of Epidemics and the Law of Covid-19 measures at the next meeting of the National Council on September 23. Vienna would like to look forward to these resolutions, but at the same time be ready to work constructively with the Corona traffic light.

As of September 4, 1,821 people in Vienna had SARS CoV-2. As a result of large-scale tests carried out on returning travelers, twice as many people are currently being tested in Vienna each day as in the previous month. In Austria, a total of 336 new cases were reported on 3 September.
