Corona traffic light: Western Austria threatens red widely

In Upper Austria, Salzburg, Tyrol and Vorarlberg, several districts are threatened with the red switch after the next meeting of the traffic light commission on Thursday. This was suggested by a look at the updated dashboard from the Agency for Food Safety and Health (AGES) on Wednesday afternoon.

The highest red warning level and therefore a “very high risk” with uncontrolled outbreaks and widespread spread is currently certified by the Corona traffic light in Salzburg Tennengau, the capital of Tyrol, Innsbruck, the district of Innsbruck-Land and the second largest city in Upper Austria, Wels.

In the four affected districts, the epidemiological situation on Wednesday at 2:00 p.m. was as follows: the seven-day incidence – the number of newly infected in the last seven days per 100,000 inhabitants – was 468.7 in Tennengau ( value on Monday, October 19: 513.5), in Innsbruck at 282.3 (Monday: 243.0), in Innsbruck-Land at 198.5 (Monday: 188.5) and in Wels at 226.8 (Monday: 204, 1).

Bad numbers

If you take these numbers as a guide, at least three other districts in Upper Austria should be in red: Schärding has a seven-day incidence of 279.2, Grieskirchen at 247.2, and Ried im Innkreis at 243.4. In Salzburg there are two new red candidates, Pongau and Flachgau, who currently have a seven-day incidence of 271.8 and 237.1, respectively.

In Tyrol, three more districts could turn red at the next traffic light: Schwaz in Unterland has a seven-day incidence of 274.2, the Oberland districts of Landeck and Imst appear with an incidence of 234.4 and 209.8, respectively. in. In Vorarlberg, the districts of Feldkirch (226.8), Dornbirn (211.1) and possibly also Bregenz (199.4) could “catch”.

In the other federal states, the seven-day incidents are significantly lower. The districts of Bruck / Leitha (165.7) and Waidhofen / Thaya (154.5) show the highest values in Lower Austria. Vienna, the districts are not shown separately here, it is at 153.5, which means that the federal capital is also clearly on the rise. Last Friday there was an incidence in seven days of 134.5 and on Monday it rose to 146.3.

In Burgenland, seven of the nine districts currently have a seven-day incidence below 100. The “outlier” at the top is Neusiedl / See with 134.3. In Styria, the Murtal district is at the top with 115.3, in Carinthia the state capital Klagenfurt with 105.1.

Relative to Austria as a whole, the seven-day incidence is currently 121.4. A worrying development, as it was below 100 last Friday at 94.8.

Other factors

In itself, exceeding the 100 mark is considered a parameter to change the affected district to red. In its assessment, the Corona Commission bases its assessment not only on the seven-day incidence but also on the number of regional tests, whether and to what extent new infections can be assigned to clusters and, therefore, delimited and on the local resources in the health system.

In Bavaria, reaching an incidence of seven days out of 100 now has drastic consequences. Cities and counties with a higher incidence have been considered dark red since Wednesday, which should automatically result in more meeting bans and an early closure at restaurants until 9 p.m., as announced by Bavarian Prime Minister Markus Söder. in a government statement in Munich.

The aim of the newly introduced warning level is to avoid a lockdown as in the spring or as currently in the Berchtesgadener Land district, Söder explained. The aim is to keep schools and kindergartens up and running, as well as the economic performance of businesses. In the Berchtesgaden tourist region, where the last value was 262, schools, restaurants and hotels are closed.

Söder spoke out against closing borders to combat the pandemic. “Our goal is for the borders to remain open,” he said in state parliament. To make this possible, Bavaria wants to offer more trial options for travelers.
