School starts again on Monday in Lower Austria, Burgenland and also in the federal capital Vienna. He was eager to see how the Corona traffic light will affect daily school life from the start. On Friday, Federal Chancellor Sebastian Kurz, Vice Chancellor Werner Kogler, Health Minister Rudolf Anschober, Interior Minister Karl Nehammer and Crown Commission spokesperson Daniela Schmid will present the start of the Corona traffic light. There was much speculation in the run-up to what “color play” should be expected. The KURIER was confirmed by a credible source that Vienna, Graz, Linz and Kufstein will turn yellow. This was preceded by hours of conversation.
The Crown Commission met fully operational for the first time on Thursday. Five representatives from the federal government, five virus experts and nine representatives from state governments will discuss the situation in all districts on Thursday. The commission then makes recommendations to the Minister of Health, Rudi Anschober. The minister, in consultation with the nine provincial governors, determines which color traffic light is lit in which district. Depending on the color of the traffic light – green, yellow, orange and red – measures are derived that are implemented by the local authorities. The commission does not make a decision based solely on the number of infections in one of Austria’s 79 political districts (and 15 manor cities). As a relevant indicator of which traffic light color needs to be changed, experts will also look at the clusters (i.e. where the infections are coming from), if there is enough capacity in the hospitals, and if the labs can perform enough corona tests.
This “Crown Commission” will only stop its work when the pandemic is over, and a large part of the population has received an effective vaccine or the disease can be treated with new drugs, or the virus is simply no longer spreading.
Green will appear in a district if the experts only see a “low risk”, that is, there are only individual cases of infection and the transmission (cluster) has been clarified.
The yellow ones are the districts where there is a moderate number of cases but the clusters are also under control.
Orange will illuminate when there is a build-up of infections and groups can no longer be clearly assigned.
Red means that new infections are not controlled in a district and that there is widespread spread. The authorities can then impose a closure and thus curfews throughout the district or in some parts.
Vienna, with its 23 districts, is considered a single district. As the city’s medical crisis team argues, there is no point looking at individual districts. Because due to the dynamics of movement in the city and the many district crossings, a single district is meaningless.
