Today, Thursday, many more districts in Austria will turn red at the traffic lights in Corona, as shown by the development of the number of cases in recent days. In Upper Austria, after Wels, six other districts could be assigned the highest alert level. The Commission is reportedly debating whether Rohrbach, Grieskirchen, Ried, Schärding, Gmunden and Vöcklabruck be in red. If it’s really about that, it must be decided at night. In Rohrbach that was a problem last week, but the district later stayed in Orange. Vienna, the federal capital, should remain orange today.
Other possible circuits: Orange for Braunau, Freistadt, Eferding (from Grün), Steyr-Land and Urfahr-Umgebung. Kirchdorf will change from green to yellow. That would mean that there would no longer be a green district. Linz-Land, on the other hand, could be downgraded from orange to yellow.
Grieskirchen District Captain Christoph Schweitzer assumes that his district will turn red. The figures, 208 people or 3.21 per thousand of the population, would hardly allow another conclusion. Currently, the groups in the district belong mainly to the private sector, both in families and in clubs. One group of cases concerns a soccer club (39 people), another arose after a private party.
In Ried – 177 cases, 2.87 per thousand – they did not want to present a statement to the district crisis team, nor in Schärding, where 173 cases (3.01 per thousand) are registered. Both districts referred to the country’s crisis team. However, you generally don’t want to comment on expectations regarding traffic lights.
14 BH employees affected
In the Ried district there is currently a cluster in the district administration itself, comprising 14 employees. In addition, there are a large number of cases related to a meat processing company in the district, which now has 159 people. However, according to the crisis team, this cannot be related to the 177 currently ill people in the district. Because among the 159 are, among others, those who have already recovered and who travel from abroad.
In Wels, where they have turned red for almost a week, the numbers have continued to rise: while the city had reported 168 confirmed infections and 206 people in quarantine on Friday of the previous week, there were 227 positives and 242 people who gave positive on Thursday of this week. quarantined. Most infections occur in the private sphere. The Haus Neustadt nursing home, where 28 residents and 12 employees fell ill, was badly affected. The city said the group is currently stable.
Wels does not plan more measures
Wels Mayor Andreas Rabl (FP) reported that there are currently no capacity issues with the hospital and intensive care beds and that contact tracing is well managed, thanks to newly hired employees. If Wels remains red, no further action is planned at this time, unless the state or federal government prescribes some. Currently, the ordinance of the latest federal government tightening is awaiting. While in other districts there were only closed-door murmurs in a similar tone, Rabl clearly wants the federal government to write ordinances beforehand and only then present them publicly.
