Corona: “Switching to red wouldn’t surprise me”

At Rohrbach, the crown traffic light threatens to turn “red”. What that means for the district, we spoke to Valentin Pühringer, deputy district captain and head of the safety and traffic department at BH Rohrbach.

DISTRICT. As of Thursday, 8 am, there are 110 “active” cases of confirmed corona virus infections in the Rohrbach district. The numbers have increased considerably recently. “After the development of the case on the last day, I would not be surprised if the traffic light in the crown changed to red,” says Valentin Pühringer, deputy district chief Wilbirg Mitterlehner and head of the district administration’s traffic and safety department. Along with Wels, Rohrbach has the highest seven-day incidence in the state, according to Pühringer. This means the number of new infections per 100,000 inhabitants. In the district of Rohrbach this number is 161, in Wels it is 215. It is followed by Ried with 135 and Schärding with 128 cases per 100,000 inhabitants.

Backlog of cases in the West

The district administration also does not know if Rohrbach will really be “red”. “That is only announced after deliberations, when a final result is available. Many factors are included,” says Pühringer. In Rohrbach, in any case, one can “understand a large part of the cases” and thus know where the origin of the infection is. “Of course, there are always cases where the person in question has no idea where they got infected.” According to Pühringer, there are a higher number of cases in the west of the district, with spread to other parts of the district. The disease is transmitted mainly within the family, for example, with people living in the same household, but also in celebrations. Roundtables are also affected.

Tests in the retirement home

A nursing home in Aigen-Schlägl is also affected. Two employees and three residents tested positive. “The affected residential groups were screened and vetted. The direct contacts were separated and there is also a visit restriction for them,” says Pühringer. Otherwise, no further measurements are necessary. The usual security precautions, such as registering the visit in advance and collecting the data, continue to apply. In the district schools, the state of Upper Austria is currently reporting a student who tested positive on the PTS Neufelden test.

“Managed too flexibly”

It cannot be said precisely why the numbers in the Rohrbach district in particular have increased so dramatically in a short period of time, Pühringer said. The deputy district captain, however, calls on all residents to pay more attention to enforcing safety regulations in the future: “The distance measurements were probably handled too lax, especially in the surrounding environment. unprofessional”. That doesn’t mean you can’t have a party anymore. However, since cases often pile up after private gatherings and family celebrations, you should make sure to keep your distance here, wear mouth and nose protection, and wash and sanitize your hands regularly. “Everyone wears masks at work, but when you go out for coffee afterwards, they take them off,” says Pühringer.

Measure when red

It is not yet possible to say exactly what it means if the district should be changed to “red,” Pühringer said. “So far there have only been recommendations from the federal government. But we are in coordination with regional staff as to what measures are then necessary and permissible. In the private sector, for example, interventions are not legally possible. It always depends on the situation. district specific. In any case, there were extensive preliminary discussions when we were moved to Orange. Even then, several events were canceled by mutual agreement. “
