Corona new infections in Austria: 808 cases on Friday
On Friday there were 334 people in Germany in a hospital. It was 15 more than the day before. 62 patients had to be treated in intensive care, seven more than on Thursday. In one week, starting from a low, this corresponded to a 51 percent increase, as Health Minister Rudolf Anschober (Greens) noted with concern: “We are now at a fork in the road. Or we can do it by consistently implementing the new measures Keep development stable or there is a risk of a shift to exponential development by the end of September. “
Anschober speaks of a “population shake”
At the same time, Anschober was confident in a press release that the latter can be avoided, “because the population seems to be shaking now after the waking of the traffic lights and the evolution of the numbers.” The extensive mask requirement that came into effect at the beginning of the week is “very well fulfilled. This is reminiscent of the high level of responsibility of the population in spring,” the health minister said. Anschober was convinced that the stricter measures adopted by the federal government, which must be observed from next Monday, “will be accepted and implemented by the population. If that is successful, we have a good chance of stabilizing development again.” However, at the moment, the development is “worrying”.
Since the outbreak of the pandemic, 36,661 people have tested positive in Austria. Of these, 763 died as a result of the corona virus. 28,451 are considered to have been recovered.
341 new infections in Vienna alone
When it comes to new infections, the federal capital accounted for 341 on Friday, a decrease of 25 compared to the previous day. There was a considerable increase with 159 compared to 100 on Thursday in Lower Austria. 85 new cases were reported in Styria, 75 and 71, respectively, in Tyrol and Styria. Vorarlberg recorded 28 new infections, 23 in Salzburg and 18 in Burgenland. Only eight new infections were recorded in Carinthia.
18,854 tests were recorded across the country in 24 hours, “a record number,” as Minister Anschober noted. 6,929 of them were in Vienna. More than four times more tests were entered than the previous day from Carinthia in the epidemiological registry (EMS). With 2,394 tests on Friday, they came even second after the federal capital, ahead of Tirol (2,210), Styria (1,957) and Upper Austria (1,643). Vorarlberg (1,326) and Burgenland (1,039) also provided significantly more tests than recently, each of which nearly doubled their reports compared to the day before. In contrast, there was a strong downward outlier in Lower Austria at 891. Testing continues at a comparatively moderate level in Salzburg (465).
