On the website of the Ministry of Health, you need to register for the mass corona tests that will start soon. But the site is the target of the attackers.
Barely online, sometimes offline again: after the registration page for the massive corona tests on Österreich-testet.at started on Wednesday, it was partly unavailable on Wednesday morning and went offline on short notice in the afternoon. “Maintenance work is currently underway. The site will be available again shortly. Previous records will be kept. Thank you for understanding!”
Reason for the incidents: Unknown attackers launched a cyberattack on the site and brought them to their knees with massive probes, reports the “Kurier”. “User data was never in danger because it was not a hacker attack,” a spokeswoman for the Ministry of Health is quoted in the report. Although the system was said to be working normally again, this was not the case in the afternoon.
Y: As the APA reports, there should be concern about applicants’ data. The registration page was taken offline “due to the risk of data leakage,” it says. This information has not yet been confirmed by the authorities.

It is not the only fault
It is not the only glitch on the login page. It was possible to sign up for the mass tests on Wednesday, but in Vienna this was only possible until December 9, although the tests in the federal capital should last until December 13. From Vienna, the office of Health Councilor Peter Hacker (SPÖ) said it was a programming error that was already being worked on.
There was also criticism about traceability: while six federal states rely on the ministry’s central registration page, Lower Austria and Vorarlberg use their own registration systems and Tyrol, although it is the central registration page, has its own information page. . While registrations for mass corona tests were still possible in these federal states, the other federal states had to wait Wednesday for the registration page to come back online.
