There have been 2,741 new infections with the corona virus in Austria in the past 24 hours, according to Sunday’s figures. This is a decrease of more than 700 compared to the Saturday numbers, but fewer and fewer test results are reported on Sundays than on weekdays.

Compared to the value of last Sunday (4,047 new infections), according to figures from the Ministry of Health and Interior (at 9:30 am), there was a decrease of 1,306.

Current crown numbers for Austria

This means that 303,430 positive PCR test results have been recorded in Austria since the start of the pandemic. The number of deaths from or with SARS-CoV-20 remained below 100 in the last 24 hours at 83. A total of 3,840 deaths from or with Covid-19 in Austria, 252,765 have been recovered. The increase in those recovered from the coronavirus, in 3,324, was again higher than that of the newly infected. The number of hospitalized patients fell from 3,877 to 3,802, of which 632 were in intensive care units, a decrease of 14 compared to Saturday.

Anschober: “Don’t be careless”

The lock works, the mass testing must continue, and it is important not to be reckless. Health Minister Rudolf Anschober (Greens) emphasized this on Sunday. You’re on the right track, but the numbers “are still too high.” As for the store openings, the department head appealed to commerce and the population.

“The goal should be that we can further reduce the number of new infections to 1,000 cases,” Anschober said. That would have an impact on the whole system: “Because first the number of new infections will decrease, then after a week or two the hospitalizations, a little later the ICU numbers and finally with a further delay the mortality rate.” With massive testing, it will be possible “to recognize thousands of new, unknown infections without symptoms and remove them from the infection cycle,” Anschober stressed. For him, “the phase of shopping days and holidays” is a decisive long-term scenario in the fight against pandemics. Crowds should be avoided and only absolutely necessary physical contact should be made with minimal distance. The minister called on retailers and “especially shopping malls” to adhere to the strict requirements.

Salzburg reports 103 new infections

Broken down by federal state, the majority of new infections were recorded in Lower Austria on Saturday with 551 before Upper Austria with 526. Vienna followed in third place with 366 new infections, just ahead of Tyrol with 362. 340 new ones were reported infected people in Styria, 239 in Vorarlberg, 198 in Carinthia, 103 in Salzburg and 56 in Burgenland.

The 7-day incidence remains at a high level

The seven and / or seven are still at a high level, but they are falling slightly. 14-day incidences, that is, new infections in the respective period per 100,000 population: across Austria, the seven-day incidence was 266.5 (Saturday: 281.2), the 14-day incidence was 631, 9 (Saturday: 659.8).
