“Do we want to document the Covid pandemic with this thing?”

Vienna City Councilor for Health Peter was also extremely upset by the ongoing chaos of numbers. Hacker (SPÖ). “We have a written statement from the head of AGES that the database is designed to document 7,000 salmonella cases a year. And with this we want to document a Covid pandemic. That cannot work,” Hacker said.

The Health Ministry confirmed delays in filing on Wednesday. There was also an emergency meeting with the laboratory operators. A press release stated: “High server load does not pose a threat to the system, rather EMS is well equipped for it through ongoing maintenance and expansion.”

The reports were not lost in any way, it was said Wednesday.

Health Minister Rudolf Anschober confirmed the problems on Thursday. But: “The news this morning was that it was done and it should work 100 percent again,” Anschober told a news conference.

Anschober confirms: So far only designed for a few thousand cases

Anschober said EMS was “very well developed” and, unlike other countries, this system in Austria provides daily updated data. However, the database had previously been designed for only a few thousand cases per year, now there are thousands of cases per day. The issues were addressed with external support, “so that there are no further delays in entering data into EMS.”

However, for Thursday today, Anschober expects late registrations and therefore a higher number of cases.

What is indisputable is that the most significant weekly average shows the most upward at 6,754 new cases per day, and there have been 65 deaths since the previous day.

And: The number of cases is not increasing because more tests are being carried out in Austria. The proportion of positive tests has risen steadily in recent days and is now 23 percent.

In recent days there should have been a stabilization of the figures, albeit at a high level. At least on Saturday, the Health Minister called Anschober as an indicator of whether the current partial blockade was sufficient or not.
