After a close employee of the Chancellor tested positive for the corona virus, the Vienna ÖVP’s top candidate canceled all appointments for the time being.
In view of the positive test from a close employee of the Chancellor, Finance Minister and ÖVP lead candidate Gernot Blümel will cancel all election campaign dates for the Vienna city council elections, which will take place next Sunday. Until the results of the tests of the contact persons of the interested party in the Chancellor’s office are available, Blümel will not attend any appointment, his office informed the APA on Monday.
Contagion cannot be ruled out with certainty
The first affected are the private television channels “Puls 4” and “Puls 24”, which have to do without the main candidates of the ÖVP in their “night of mourning” today Monday.
The Finance Minister and the head of the Vienna ÖVP were tested regularly (negative). But currently, an infection cannot be ruled out with certainty. Therefore, as a precautionary measure, Blümel refrains from all appearances and meetings. As soon as the test results of the many Chancellor employee contact persons are available, the additional procedure will be defined.
