According to the information, this amounts to a total of 678 million euros for the approximately 1,824 million children for whom family allowances are received.
The automatic payment will take place in the next two days, Family Minister Christine Aschbacher and Finance Minister Gernot Blümel (both ÖVP) said at a press conference on Tuesday.
The 360 euros per child are indexed as the family allowance. This means that around 137,000 beneficiaries with children living abroad receive more or less than 360 euros, depending on the cost of living in the respective country.
“Every family that receives the family allowance receives the money,” Blümel said. The deadline for this is September. An app is not necessary.
Starting today, the money will be transferred to the accounts of all beneficiaries, he said. Aschbacher said families who thanked him for the money had already written to him.
The child bonus is intended to cushion the financial consequences of the crown crisis for families, but also to stimulate the economy. According to economists, money is likely to be spent quickly, especially with parents with lower family incomes, thus stimulating consumption.
School starter packages
In Austria the distribution of school initiation packages for low-income families has started. Social minister Rudolf Anschober (Greens) took a picture of the action on Tuesday and visited a location of the logistics partner, the Red Cross in Vienna-Floridsdorf. “We must do everything we can to ensure that the health crisis does not turn into a social crisis,” he said regarding the corona pandemic.
The start-up package of the Ministry of Social Affairs has been financed by the European Aid Fund since 2015. The aim is to offset this burden at the beginning of the school year, help low-income households and at the same time make a positive contribution to the motivation of children and young people. While around 33,000 school starter kits were distributed in 2015, this number has risen to more than 45,000 in 2019.
Students living in minimum income support households are eligible regardless of age and type of school (with the exception of vocational students). The Red Cross will distribute nine different packets of materials, depending on the school level. “Access to education is fundamental,” Anschober emphasized. Also in Austria, child poverty continues in some areas.
