In Ardagger (Amstetten district) drinking water contamination was found on Monday. The expert’s opinion after a routine examination carried out by AGES showed that “by detecting fecal indicator germs (Escherichia coli), fecal contamination cannot be excluded.” Therefore, drinking water in the affected areas can currently only be consumed in a boiled state, according to the municipality’s website.
As noted by AGES, the reference values for “colony forming units” and “coliform bacteria” were exceeded at two test sites. The Illersdorf and the Kirchfeld elevated reservoir are specifically affected, the newspaper “Heute” reported. Although no contamination was found in the Römerweg and Sonnensiedlung areas, the municipality recommended boiling the water here as well.
“We informed all the neighbors yesterday, they all received a personal letter from the mayor, as well as a map of the site and the report,” the community told APA on Tuesday. The source of the contamination is currently being sought. According to AGES, in each case there had to be a “control of bacteriological steps”, the “cleaning and disinfection of the entire water supply system” and “a vigorous rinsing of the affected parts of the system.” (apa)
