In view of the still high number of infections, the government announced late Friday that the crown’s measures would be tightened again. Only a maximum of two households are allowed for New Years Eve celebrations. There are exceptions for Christmas Eve and Christmas, when ten people are allowed. This was announced by Federal Chancellor Sebastian Kurz (ÖVP) at a press conference after a conference with state governors.
There are still night-out restrictions from 8:00 pm to 6:00 am These do not apply on New Year’s Eve, Kurz said. However, in light of the holidays, the federal states now have the opportunity to introduce a mask requirement in heavily frequented outdoor areas. In addition, protection of the mouth and nose is mandatory in the workplace, where distance cannot be maintained.
