After the recent health setback, the career of the three-time world champion appears to be over.

Bernhard Gruber was transferred from the intensive care unit in Lahti after placing two additional stents after another coronary artery constriction. The 38-year-old from Salzburg, who again complained of chest pain after his comeback after ten months at the Lahti World Cup, is doing well according to the ÖSV. During a cardiac catheter examination, the Nordic combined athlete received two more stents on Sunday.

Gruber, including the former individual world champion in 2015 and Olympic team champion in Vancouver 2010, will now be transferred to Austria on Wednesday or Thursday. However, this will only be decided on Tuesday. A more detailed update on his health is expected to be available on Wednesday.

The Bad Hofgasteiner had already received the same diagnosis in mid-March 2020. Eight months later, after extensive checks, he received medical clearance to practice high-performance sports in early November. After starting training with the Austrian team, Gruber started the World Cup season in the Lahti team sprint on Saturday. Along with Mario Seidl, he was surprisingly the first to jump, and was ultimately an excellent sixth place for the duo.

After the recent health setback, the career of the three-time world champion and six-time World Cup winner seems to be over for good.
