In the west, winter is back, but only for a short time.
On Tuesday night there was a strong start to winter. A cold front caused heavy snowfall in western Austria. More than half a meter of fresh snow fell on the mountains! But it also snowed at lower elevations, such as the Inn Valley.
Snow chaos in parts of Austria
The snowfall caused problems. Because most drivers are still on the road on summer tires, there were delays on the Brenner and Inntal highways, for example.

Innsbruck and parts of Salzburg were covered in sugar.

Vomp in the Tirol Inn Valley was also covered in sugar

Weather forecast for the next few days
In the coming days, however, the weather will be milder. That’s it with the onset of winter.
Wednesday: Dense clouds from a weak fault zone reach the west and north of the country. These bring some rain, especially in Vorarlberg and Ausserfern. Other than that, sunny sections predominate after the fog has cleared, even if high and mid-high cloud fields sometimes cloud the sun a bit. The wind generally only blows weakly. In the morning the temperatures range between minus 2 and plus 7 degrees, the daily maximum of the air temperature is reached with 8 to 17 degrees.
Thursday: From Vorarlberg to western Lower Austria, it rains early in the morning; otherwise, clouds predominate on the north side of the Alps and in the east. In the course of the morning, the precipitation spreads to the eastern lowlands. The snow line is usually between 1600 and 2000 m above sea level. Away from the mountains, the rain takes longer breaks in the afternoon and the sun continues to appear in at least some areas. South of the Alps, it remains largely dry with a mixture of sun and clouds. The wind blows from weak to moderate, in the north and east in the afternoon, sometimes forcefully refreshing from south to northwest. In the morning temperatures range from 0 to plus 9 degrees, the daily maximum air temperature is reached with around 9 to 17 degrees.
