In Schrems (Gmünd district), a Turkish wedding with 700 people has become the starting point for a group of coronaviruses. There are currently 13 positive cases and 150 people in quarantine, APA state medical staff said. “They lied to us about the contacts for a week,” the district captain of the “Niederösterreichische Nachrichten” (“NÖN”) district Stefan Grusch quoted on Tuesday.
Following the Sept. 12 event, authorities still did not have a full list of visitors to track contacts. “Time passes when more contacts can be made and the virus can happily spread,” Grusch told “NÖN”. “I will inform the prosecution of anyone who has lied to us. This is a public risk to the entire district.”
“Some test results are still pending, but all suspected cases have been segregated and all contact persons are quarantined at home,” Grusch said in an afternoon broadcast. Basically, it should be noted that “the wedding visitors, realizing the urgency of the situation, quickly reported to 1450,” he continued. “Surveys and contact tracing regarding the wedding at Schrems are currently ongoing,” state medical personnel said. It cannot be ruled out that the cluster continues to grow.

The Turkish wedding also drew criticism from the city chief, Karl Harrer (SPÖ). The mayor didn’t seem to mind the 200-person limit when he approved a 350-person event. There were even 700 people, Waldviertler Abg wrote. Lukas Brandweiner (ÖVP) on Facebook.
It is particularly upsetting that in recent weeks and months, many couples have “postponed, reduced or celebrated their wedding in a different setting,” the mandate said. The number of guests at the Schrems celebration is “irresponsible and disrespectful to people who follow the rules.” Last but not least, Brandweiner expressed the hope that “the health authority will control the cluster despite difficult conditions.”
According to state medical personnel, there were 15 positive cases in connection with Wednesday’s wedding. 150 people were in quarantine. It was not ruled out that the cluster could continue to grow.
