Correction: In an earlier version of this article it was wrongly stated that “Exctinction Rebellion” activists occupy Schwarzebergplatz. In fact, it is the grouping “System change, not climate change!”.
Around 100 climate protectors came out again on Friday morning, this time blocking the headquarters of the Federation of Industrialists at Schwarzenbergplatz. Drivers report significant traffic jams in the area. Apparently it is an unregistered demonstration, the police are already in place.
Drivers were somewhat astonished that climate protectors, of all people, detonate Bengal (fireworks) and thereby increase particulate pollution.
“At Rennweg, traffic is already going up to Landstraßer Hauptstrasse, at Prinz-Eugen-Strasse back to Gürtel,” reported ÖATC mobility information on Friday morning around 8:00 am. “The demo that has also been officially registered for climate-friendly mobility and system change will probably keep us busy all morning. Delays are expected, especially at Getreidemarkt, Ring and Franz Josefs Kai, ”according to ÖAMTC.
The protest of “System change, not climate change!” It is directed against “preventing a climate-friendly and social mobility transition through the car lobby.” A bike rally was announced through downtown Vienna, past the ÖAMTC and the Ministry of Transport, for 9:00 am
