ORTo reduce the risk of corona infection, Berlin virologist Christian Drosten advises a kind of self-isolation before family visits. “I think the principle of pre-quarantine is a good idea,” Drosten told “Zeit Online” on Tuesday. This means “that people avoid social contact as much as possible with grandmother and grandfather for a few days, ideally a week, before visiting their families.” This could be an approach for the fall holidays and for Christmas.
Drosten currently considers the corona pandemic in Germany controllable. “We have a realistic chance in Germany to get through the fall and winter better than many other countries.”
To avoid that the intensive care units are full, as they already exist in Madrid or the south of France, it is important that “everyone thinks and understands: we have it in our own hands”. It involves a lot of small everyday decisions and taking the situation seriously.
This also applies to private celebrations. Everyone might wonder “if you really have to have a party that you planned this winter, if you can find a particularly large and spacious room for her or put it off until next year,” Drosten said.
