The boy from Lower Austria was away from home on New Year’s Day with two other children and a 48-year-old classmate at the Zwieselalm. At around 1pm, the children entered the “Hängleiten” track under the “Kanonenrohr” section of the track, which is not yet open. The 48-year-old man was unable to stop the children in time and drove behind them down the unsafe incline. The nine-year-old missed the edge of the unmarked slope in this area and suddenly fell. He collided with masses of hard, icy snow and sustained injuries of an indefinite degree, police said Friday. The young man from Lower Austria was taken to the valley by the trail rescue service and from there with the rescue team to the hospital in Bad Ischl.
