At ORF’s “ZIB 2” on Wednesday night, Chancellor Kurz revealed the first details of how the “free trial” should work starting on January 18.
In an interview with moderator Martin Thür (Note D. Red .: From about minute 6 in the videoKurz explains that in gastronomy a test that should not be more than a week old is enough. Health authorities would carry out random checks. However, there will be no unrestricted opening even with testing.
For culture and tourism, however, the test should not be more than 48 hours ago. The organizer or operator should be responsible for verifying the tests.
Without such measures, it would not be possible to restart these areas in a phase where they would not function without tests, said the Chancellor.
Details on “free trials” are unclear
The hard lock is valid until January 24. However, all people with a negative test result should be able to use gastronomy and culture again from January 18. The rules for testing greater freedom of movement are not yet clear, and constitutional experts are already expressing concern.
The government wants to present legal regulation for freestyle next week. The opposition could block this regulation in the Federal Council and thus prevent it.
Even within the ÖVP a dispute has arisen over the question of who should control the “free trial” tests.
