Compared to the 2-1 loss in Leipzig three weeks ago, Kylian Mbappé and Neymar returned to the starting lineup at PSG. In the central midfield of the Leipzig team, which only Konrad Laimer will process in the new year, captain Marcel Sabitzer acted alongside Amadou Haidara, another former Salzburg citizen.
Sabitzer was also at the center of the crucial situation. The ÖFB team player caused a penalty – albeit controversial – with a clumsy tackle against Ángel Di María, used by Neymar (11th). Sabitzer had already committed a penalty foul in the 5-0 loss to Manchester United, CL’s only defeat of Leipzig of the season so far. The Germans in Prinzenpark were the most ambitious team. Sabitzer’s shot was deflected just outside the goal (12th). After changing sides, Paris achieved the lead with some difficulty.
ManUnited wins in parallel game
League leaders Manchester United left nothing to be desired in the Group H side game with a 4-1 win over Istanbul Basaksehir. Bruno Fernandes was the man of the match with an early double (7th, 19th). United’s third goal, CL’s fifth this season, earned Marcus Rashford a penalty after committing a foul (35th). Daniel James was also successful in the final (92nd).
Dortmund’s Erling Haaland has already scored six goals in the premier class this season. In the 3-0 victory in Group F against Club Brugge, the Norwegian scored a double (18th, 60th). The former Salzburg goalkeeper hit the short corner first through the inside post. In the second half he happily put the ball into the area and finished off. Haaland now has 16 goals in twelve career CL appearances. In the league, the 20-year-old last managed a four-pack against Hertha BSC (5-2).
Against Brugge, Jadon Sancho launched a remarkable free kick (45º). As the leader of Group F, Dortmund is clearly on the rise, like Lazio Roma. The Romans defeated Zenit St. Petersburg 3-1 thanks to two goals from star forward Ciro Immobile (3rd, 55th / Elfer) and a long-range shot from captain Marco Parolo (22nd) and are one point behind Dortmund and four ahead of Brujas.
Barça and Juve are promoted to Group G.
Barcelona also won the round of 16 in Group G with a B-Elf with a 4-0 win at Dynamo Kiev. Lionel Messi had stayed home to protect himself, a few other stars were on the bench and numerous reservists made their CL debuts. Danish Martin Braithwaite scored two goals and one assist. The 29-year-old served American Sergino Dest (52nd) for the first time. After a close-up (57th), the forward hit himself as a foul with a penalty (70th). Substitute Antoine Griezmann (92nd) made the final score.
Barcelona has a maximum of twelve points after four rounds. Juventus follow after a 2-1 win over Ferencvaros Budapest, three points behind second place. After an early deficit, Cristiano Ronaldo tied with his 131st goal in CL (35th). Until Álvaro Morata’s decisive goal, which set the promotion, the Italian champions had to tremble until the second minute of stoppage time.
Chelsea and Sevilla pass in Group E.
Chelsea and Sevilla FC secured tickets for the round of 16. Both teams hold out after 2-1 wins in Group E in injury time with ten points each in four games. Chelsea prevailed at Stade Rennes after a 1-0 break, as did Sevilla at FK Krasnodar.
Substitute Olivier Giroud scored the decisive goal for Chelsea. The French world champion, who is no more than a “joker” role in the “Blues,” scored in the chase with his head (91st) after German Timo Werner had previously missed a great opportunity. Young star Callum Hudson-Odoi gave Chelsea the lead after a pass from English compatriot Mason Mount (22nd), but Sehrou Guirassy tied with a header for Rennes (85th).
The Moroccan Munir El Haddadi (95th) became the winner of the match for Sevilla. Former Barcelona star Ivan Rakitic provided the initial lead (4th). Former Salzburger Wanderson managed to equalize for the Russians (56th). After a 0-0 draw in the only direct duel between Sevilla and Chelsea, it is a group victory. Due to the better goal difference, the English are currently leaders.
