Cardinal Schönborn: “Anti-Semitism must have no place in us. It endangers the peaceful coexistence of all of us” – Freistetter on behalf of the Commission on World Religions of the Episcopal Conference: “We stand alongside our Jewish brothers and sisters”

Vienna (KAP) Representatives of the Catholic Church reacted with dismay to the assault on a rabbi in Vienna and condemned the act in the strongest possible terms. “I am appalled by yesterday’s attack on a rabbi in the center of Vienna and assure our fellow Jewish citizens of my solidarity,” Cardinal Schönborn told Kathpress on Friday and via Twitter. “Anti-Semitism must have no place in us. It endangers the peaceful coexistence of all of us,” said the Archbishop of Vienna. Besides Cardinal Schönborn, Bishop Werner Freistetter, as chairman of the World Religions Commission of the Episcopal Conference, “condemned the attack in the strongest terms.”

“We stand alongside our Jewish brothers and sisters,” the military bishop emphasized in a statement to Kathpress, saying: “This sad incident underscores the importance of taking all short and long-term measures to sustainably deprive terrorism of the broth of culture”.
