Casinos: works council hopes there will be no layoffs

The works council of Casinos Austria is not surprised by the report of 600 employees in the AMS. It is a technically necessary precautionary measure, the head of the central works council, Manfred Schönbauer, told the APA on Thursday.

Negotiations with senior management on staff savings have already been ongoing since the beginning of July. There is great interest in the part-time and exit models on offer.

The 600 employees registered for termination with the AMS are those who meet the eligibility requirements for early retirement, part-time and the like, according to Schönbauer. Older employees, in particular, are currently willing to accept such a model. The elderly are mostly those who earn quite well and generate high personnel costs.

Since the start of the overhaul savings program, the works council has favored “relatively generous” part-time or voluntary departure models, and these are exactly what exists now. State-owned casinos have already offered older employees the option of working part-time in the past and only come to work during peak hours.

“In this way, they remain with us as employees and are not a burden on the public sector,” Schönbauer said.
