Carinthia: Problems after Corona penalty for couple

The governor of Carinthia, Peter Kaiser, reacts with complete incomprehension to a report by ORF-Kärnten, according to which couples living in union are fined if one of the two Covid-19 is positive.

According to ORF that’s what happened to a couple of carpenters. The man was positive and had to isolate himself. During a phone conversation with the country’s contact tracing department, he later claimed that he lived with his girlfriend.

He later received a sanction order amounting to 300 euros or a substitute custodial sentence of 6 days. The couple’s attorney has already appealed and advises other victims to do the same.

According to ORF, the district administration confirms the sanction that the requirements of the federal government must be implemented.

Kaiser rebukes the federal government

For the Governor of Carinthia, Peter Kaiser, the federal government has a duty. “I hope the federal government will quickly remove the unrealistic regulation that has now been made public,” he says in a broadcast.

Until then, the sanctions that the district authorities dictate in the course of the indirect federal administration as an authority directly subordinate to the federal government must be suspended.

“The state of Carinthia has no control over this, the responsibility for this rests solely with the federal government,” Kaiser continued. You are assuming that in this context the sanctions previously imposed will not be legally valid.

It is regrettable that such otherworldly penal provisions endanger the public’s confidence in the measures necessary to contain the corona pandemic.
