After five years, the link between Ferrari and Sebastian Vettel ended at the end of the year.
That has been clear since Wednesday. But now there could be a new and unexpected twist in the search for a cabin for the four-time world champion.
The media reports go in different directions. Initially there was talk of Vettel signing with McLaren in exchange for Carlos Sainz junior, who will become Vettel’s successor at Ferrari.
But “Sport1” now wants to know that the Heppenheimer McLaren has rejected and is now playing for a new cabin. According to the report, the German is no longer willing to work three years to make McLaren a winning team. Vettel wants immediate success and, unsurprisingly, only expects this from Mercedes.
World champions Lewis Hamilton and Valtteri Bottas’ contracts for Toto Wolff’s team expire at the end of the season, there are no contract extensions yet. That gives Vettel hope. Apparently he speculates specifically on Bottas’ position.
If nothing comes out, the end of your career should also be an option. More recently, Wolff had commented positively on Vettel and confirmed that he still had a good reputation in Formula 1. However, out of respect for current Mercedes drivers, he did not get carried away. In fact, there may be a mega deal.
With Hamilton and Vettel in a team it would probably provide powerful explosives.
