An attacker killed two people with a sword and wounded five others in the historic center of the Canadian metropolis of Quebec on Halloween. Police said they had arrested a suspect early Sunday morning.
Initially, the police did not provide any information about the attacker’s possible motive. The man wore a medieval costume and had a sword with him, said police spokesman Etienne Doyon. He inflicted gunshot wounds on his victims. The police cannot provide further information at this time. The five wounded were injured to varying degrees.
Police had previously asked city residents in eastern Canada to stay home and close the doors of the online service Twitter. The five injured are currently being treated in hospitals, local police spokeswoman Etienne Doyon said at a news conference Sunday morning.
The suspect, who is in his early twenties according to police, was captured near the port of Quebec and is currently also in hospital for investigation.
