Bundesliga: Ried’s first away win

After the opening lead and a largely even first half of the game, the WSG defense collapsed after the break. However, Wattener kept his fifth place, thanks to the first away win in the last game before the Christmas break, Ried moved up to ninth place.

In an energetic game with well-drawn attack lines on both sides, Zlatko Dedic put the Tyrolese ahead in the 10th minute. It was already the fourth goal of the season for the Slovenian. After halftime, the Rieder started furious, still unhappily at the end before the break. Marco Grüll (48th / penalty), Bernd Gschweidl (53rd) and Ante Bajic (55th) scored in seven minutes and paved the way for the Vikings’ first away win.

More efficient zip line before break

Ried’s first big chance of the game came when Gschweidl slammed the ball off the crossbar in the seventh minute. The home team took the lead: Dedic was there after a Florian Rieder free kick bounced off the short post into the field. The later course was characterized by opportunities on both sides, with the most active guests to the front. Gschweidl missed the ball in the 18th minute, a powerful shot from Julian Wießmeier (23) missed.

Nice hit from Bajic

The second act started with a David Schnegg foul on the playful Bajic in the penalty area, Grüll converted the penalty that was due. After Gschweidl’s goal, Bajic hit the ball from inside the penalty area. In the 63rd minute, Stefan Nutz missed the great opportunity of the final decision at point-blank range. But even so, Wattener’s final offensive brought nothing more. Tobias Anselm missed the last chance in the 94th minute.

Ried had only left coach and sports director Gerald Baumgartner on Tuesday. The 56-year-old had been in office since January 2019 and had brought the club back to the House of Lords this year. Innviertler veteran Schweitzer moved from assistant coach role to executive role on short notice, but will be leaving the combat team due to his professional activity in the winter.
