Borussia Mönchengladbach coach Marco Rose has apologized for the attack of his forward Marcus Thuram in the 1: 2 against Hoffenheim 1899. In his first statement after the game, Rose found clear words. “I would like to apologize on behalf of the whole club. He just doesn’t belong on the football field. He goes far beyond the borders. The fuses have been broken for him,” the former Salzburg coach said at the press conference.

Thuram spat in the face of his Austrian opponent Stefan Posch and saw the red card for him (79th). Hoffenheim coach Sebastian Hoeneß said shortly after the game that he hadn’t seen the scene at all. “But of course we also accept the apology as a club. It is worthy of all honor to say it clearly here,” said Hoeneß.

Rose announced that she wanted to have a serious word with Thuram. After the red card, Ryan Sessegnon scored the goal of the Hoffenheim winner (85th minute). “But of course I have to say he’s actually a good kid,” Rose said of the Frenchman, the son of former world-class defender Lilian Thuram. “He comes from a very good family, is well educated and has good manners.”
