SV Ried has reported a win against WSG Tirol in the Bundesliga. Three penalties and questionable referee decisions shape Oberhaus’s return from the Innviertel.

After more than three years of absence, SV Ried won a true thriller when he returned to the Bundesliga. In the first round of the new season, Innviertler beat WSG Tirol in front of 2,650 spectators with 3: 2 (1: 2) in injury time alone. The Rieder remains undefeated as a climber in the early rounds.

Zlatko Dedič (4th) put the visitors ahead with a penalty, Marco Grüll (20th) also scored with a penalty to equalize. David Schnegg (30th) from LASK secured the 2-1 lead. Then the Upper Austrians started, but home fans had to wait until the 82nd minute for Julian Wießmeier to equalize. The midfielder scored with his first contact with the ball in the Bundesliga from the penalty spot. Substitute Valentin Grubeck scored in the 97th minute, but from an offside position.

Rieder’s last minute win with a blot

Ried left the Tyrolese with a tight defensive block early on, the rejuvenated Wattener took advantage of this and quickly marched forward. The first opportunity presented itself in the second minute: goalkeeper Samuel Şahin-Radlinger was there when Danish Nikolai Baden Frederiksen lifted the ball. After a hand from ex-Mattersburgers Michael Lercher a bit later, Dedič confidently transformed from the penalty spot.

In the 14th minute, Bernd Gschweidl missed a sudden chance to equalize. The forward only hit the crossbar after Swarovski’s team fumbled the ball in midfield. Five minutes later, referee Christian-Petru Ciochirca identified a Kelvin Yeboah foul on Grüll in the penalty area. He took the penalty himself and used Dedič as before.

The game then rocked back and forth, with the WSG still having slight advantages. Thanos Petsos tested Şahin-Radlinger from distance in the 28th minute. New signing Schnegg had more luck with his shot, which was deflected twice by a Rieder and therefore unsustainable for the goalkeeper who had returned to Austria from Barnsley.

In the 36th minute, WSG goalkeeper Ferdinand Oswald had to show his skills with a header from Gschweidl. Grüll (43.) caught another opportunity to equalize. Early in the second half, Dedic (50th) missed from a sharp angle to Sahin-Radlinger, but Rieder increased the number of hits. Center defender Luca Meisl (57th), who was advancing, missed the goal with a long-distance shot, and in the 64th minute a great opportunity was extinguished in the Tyrolean area. A header from Grüll (71st) lacked the necessary emphasis.

Instead, Dedič (65th) finished well over the goal. The Tyrolese were now on the defensive and sought their salvation in the counterattack. In the end, however, Ried also had the luck of the capable on his side: after Florian Buchacher fouled Seth Paintsil, Wießmeier, who had recently been replaced, did not miss the chance. Grubeck dusted off at the end of injury time, but after a teammate’s offside position, up close.
