Prime Minister Boris Johnson’s health has improved, said Finance Secretary Rishi Sunak. “The prime minister remains in intensive care where his condition improves,” Sunak said at a press conference in London on Wednesday night. Johnson was also able to sit on the bed and interact “positively” with the medical team.

The Downing Street government had previously announced that Johnson was “clinically stable” and that treatment was pending. He was still receiving treatment in the intensive care unit at St. Thomas Hospital in London and was in a good mood.

At a noon news conference, a government spokesman said Johnson was receiving regular oxygen treatment but could breathe on his own. It doesn’t work, but it can keep the contacts you need.

Johnson was hospitalized on Sunday after the symptoms of his Covid 19 disease did not resolve after ten days. On Monday he felt worse and had to be transferred to the intensive care unit. Since then his health has stabilized.

The number of deaths from a pandemic coronavirus in the UK has continued to rise dramatically. As of Tuesday night, 938 new deaths had been recorded there, the London Ministry of Health said. Overall, the number of deaths increased to more than 7,000.
