The government announced stricter measures on Monday. Sebastian Kurz also mentioned points of when a confinement becomes a problem.
Federal Chancellor Sebastian Kurz, Vice Chancellor Werner Kogler, Health Minister Rudolf Anschober and Interior Minister Karl Nehammer presented new national measures on Monday. The government wants to fight Corona with a general requirement of mask, tightening of meetings and rules in gastronomy. In gastronomy, for example, only six people are allowed inside per table.
At indoor events with assigned seating, a maximum of 1,000 people can be present. For outdoor events, the limit is 1,500 people. This also applies to sporting events. Mask requirements apply to all indoor and outdoor events. The measures will take effect from midnight on Friday.
The main objective of the government remains to avoid a second blockade. Therefore, it is important that people adhere to the measures.
Contact tracing as an important point
At the press conference, a journalist asked how high the number of infections should be for the lockdown to repeat. According to Sebastian Kurz, this depends on several points.
The first question is: how long does contact tracing work? Currently, health authorities can track the contacts of infected people well, but there are regional differences.
In Slovenia, for example, a state of emergency has been declared. Contact tracing no longer works here due to overload, “Heute” reported.
Occupation in hospitals
As a second point, Kurz mentioned the situation of intensive care, that is, how the workload is seen in hospitals. “That’s the absolute limit,” Kurz emphasized. But it also depends on other factors. It is also about the age of those infected.
A high number of infections does not automatically mean that hospitals are overloaded. However, if there is still exponential growth, 6,000 new infections would be on the agenda in December. After all, you also have to think about planned operations, which then cannot be carried out, as in the spring.
