In view of the high number of new infections, Vienna is now officially a corona risk zone in Germany. Travelers from risk areas should be tested for coronavirus in Germany, unless they can show a negative result that is no more than 48 hours old. As long as there is no negative result, they must quarantine at home for two weeks.
Urgent appeal, but without a travel ban
Germany has previously defined regions in France, Spain, Belgium, Croatia, Bulgaria, Romania, the Czech Republic and Switzerland as risk areas. In addition to Vienna, Budapest, the Hungarian capital, the French region of Hauts-de-France and the overseas territory of La Reunion, the Croatian counties of Brod-Posavina and Virovitica-Podravina, the Dutch provinces of North Holland and South Holland, and the Romanian districts of Neamt have been added since Wednesday night. and Caras Severin, the Swiss canton of Friborg and the Czech region of Stredocesky (Central Bohemia). The classification as a risk area is based on a joint analysis and decision of the German health, foreign and domestic ministries. The German Foreign Ministry said the travel warnings were, in character, an urgent appeal, not a travel ban. However, the existence of a travel warning could have additional effects, for example for the validity of travel medical insurance.

Salzburg as the “orange zone” in Belgium
Additionally, a milder corona warning also applies to six Austrian federal states: Lower Austria, Upper Austria, Burgenland, Styria, Tyrol and Salzburg have been classified as the “orange zone” by the Belgian Foreign Ministry. This category also applies to Vienna until Friday afternoon.
