Bookstores commotion: government bans contactless pickup stations | Book Association

Vienna (OTS) The Christmas business is just around the corner, but the local book store has to keep its stores closed. And: the book store cannot install pick-up stations for customers in stores. “Everyone can collect and pay for their food prepared at the inn,” this unequal treatment outraged the president of the Association of the Book Industry and Media, Komm.-Rat Friedrich Hinterschweiger.

Austrian booksellers have been promoting the online mail order business for years. However, for many orders, the shipping costs are not related to the book prices. Or to put it another way: the profit situation is drastically reduced by shipping and packaging costs, sometimes even reduced to zero.

The Austrian book trade generates up to 50% of annual sales in November and December.
